A few years ago, most people in New Castle County thought of Wilmington Airport as a place for private planes and the Delaware Air National Guard. That picture is out of date. ILG now runs scheduled commercial flights, has a bigger terminal, and offers a bus connection into American Airlines' network at Philadelphia.
Delaware Limo is based in New Castle, on the same stretch of DuPont Highway as the airport, and ILG pickups are some of the shortest trips we run. This guide covers what changed at ILG, where you can fly, and how to get to and from the terminal without guessing at the rules. Schedules here shift often, so every time-sensitive detail carries the date we last checked it.
Wilmington Airport sits at 151 N. DuPont Highway in New Castle, about 7.5 miles from downtown Wilmington. The Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) operates it. You'll still hear locals call it New Castle Airport, and both names refer to the same place.
Commercial service returned when Avelo Airlines opened a base at ILG in February 2023. In May 2026, the DRBA and Avelo marked the airline's one-millionth customer at the airport, the most any single airline has carried through ILG.
As of the airport's February 2026 update, Avelo flew nonstop to 11 destinations from Wilmington, some of them seasonal:
The route map moves. In January 2026, Avelo ended service to Nashville, Raleigh-Durham and Jacksonville and paused planned flights to Atlanta and Chicago. Before you build a trip around ILG, confirm the current schedule on FlyILG or Avelo's site.
ILG's other commercial option runs on the ground. American Airlines and Landline operate a motorcoach between ILG and Philadelphia International. The process works like this:
On the way home, the process reverses and you collect your bags at ILG's baggage claim. The DRBA reported in January 2026 that the service had carried more than 20,000 passengers. Departures run on a fixed daily schedule that has changed over time, so check AA.com for current times.
ILG opened its expanded terminal on January 22, 2026. According to the airport, the project cost close to $10 million and was funded in part by a $5.6 million federal Airport Terminal Program grant. It added:
The airport also listed a second TSA screening lane and post-security restroom upgrades as work still in progress.

Departing passengers can be dropped at the curb in front of the terminal. For arrivals, the airport allows curbside pickup but prohibits curbside waiting under TSA rules, and unattended vehicles can be ticketed or towed. If a friend is picking you up, they should wait in the cell phone lot behind the terminal until you call. Avelo's flight status page is the easiest way for them to time the drive to the curb.
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Drive and park | Short trips when you have a second car at home | Daily parking adds up on a two-week vacation |
| Friend or family drop-off | Solo travelers with flexible hosts | Late-night arrivals and delayed flights |
| Rideshare | Light luggage, daytime trips | Check pickup wait times in the app before you land |
| Pre-booked car service | Families, early departures, visitors heading to Wilmington, the Brandywine Valley or beyond | Book ahead for holiday weekends |
For visitors flying into ILG, the drive inland is short. Downtown Wilmington is about a quarter hour away, and Newark, Hockessin and the Pennsylvania suburbs are reachable without touching Philadelphia traffic.
Our chauffeurs offer curbside pickup at ILG, and meet and greet inside the terminal is available for a $20 fee. We track your flight, so a late Avelo arrival shifts your pickup time automatically. For one or two travelers, our luxury sedan seats three. Families and groups with more luggage usually fit better in the Executive SUV. You can see every airport we serve on our airport transportation page.
Yes. Wilmington Airport (airport code ILG) is in New Castle, Delaware, and many residents still call it New Castle Airport. Both names refer to the same airport at 151 N. DuPont Highway.
Avelo Airlines is the only airline operating scheduled flights from ILG. American Airlines also sells tickets from ILG, but that first leg is a Landline motorcoach to PHL rather than a flight.
Yes, through American Airlines. You clear security at ILG, ride the Landline bus to a secure gate at PHL Terminal F, and connect to American's network, including international routes, without screening again in Philadelphia.
The DRBA listed parking at $11.50 per day in January 2026, with more than 1,300 spaces near the terminal. Rates change, so check FlyILG's parking page before your trip.
Arriving passengers are picked up at the curb in front of the terminal. Drivers can't wait at the curb, so private drivers use the free cell phone lot behind the building. A pre-booked chauffeur can also meet you inside.
ILG works best when Avelo flies where you're going or when you want American's network without the PHL security line. Check the schedule before you book, plan your ride before you land, and leave the parking math for longer trips. If you'd like someone waiting when you arrive, Delaware Limo handles ILG pickups and drop-offs, and our dispatch team is available around the clock once you're booked.
