Transportation is one of the wedding costs couples tend to estimate last and underestimate most. The couple's car is easy to picture. The shuttle loops for 120 guests between a Wilmington hotel and a Brandywine Valley venue are harder, and they're usually where the budget moves.
Delaware Limo plans wedding transportation across Delaware and the surrounding states, and our wedding coordinator builds a quote around each couple's timeline. This guide explains what couples spend nationally, what drives the price up or down, and how payment works, so you can set a number before your first consultation.
According to The Knot's annual wedding survey, which covered nearly 17,000 U.S. couples married in 2024, the average spent on wedding transportation was $1,075. The same study found:
Treat those as starting points. An average blends couples who booked one car with couples who moved 200 guests all night, so your number depends on what you're moving and for how long.
Wedding transportation breaks into a few separate jobs. Most couples book two or three of them, not all five.
| Component | Vehicles couples typically use | What drives the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Couple's arrival and getaway car | Luxury sedan, stretch limo or vintage car | Hours reserved; vintage cars are limited and booked on request |
| Wedding party | Stretch limousine (9 to 10) or Sprinter limo (12 to 14) | Size of the party and number of photo stops |
| Guest shuttles | Transit van (14), shuttle bus or motorcoach (40 to 56) | Guest count, number of hotels and distance to the venue |
| Rehearsal dinner and welcome events | Shuttle or van | Number of trips and hours |
| Family airport pickups | Sedan or SUV | Airport and arrival times |
Capacities from Delaware Limo's fleet page, last verified November 2026. Shuttle bus capacity varies by vehicle, so your coordinator will confirm the exact seat count for your date.
Bigger vehicles cost more per hour but less per guest. One motorcoach can replace two smaller shuttles on a large wedding, while a 14-passenger van is often enough for a small hotel block.
Wedding vehicles are usually reserved by the hour. If the reception runs late and you need the car longer, our dispatch team can add time, and the extra hours are charged to the card on file. Sometimes a vehicle has another reservation right after yours, and in that case your coordinator will tell you the firm end time in advance.
Spring and fall are peak wedding seasons in Delaware, and vehicles for popular Saturdays go early. We recommend booking 3 to 6 months ahead, and earlier than that for peak dates.
A vintage getaway car photographs beautifully, but supply is limited. We offer vintage vehicles on request, availability depends on where the wedding is, and these bookings are paid in full when you reserve. If a vintage car is part of the plan, ask about it several months before the date, then build the rest of the transportation budget around what's confirmed.
This cost driver is easy to overlook. A venue 30 minutes from the hotel block needs longer shuttle loops, which can mean more vehicles or more hours to move the same number of guests. Two hotel blocks double the routing.
| Wedding size | A typical plan | Where the budget goes |
|---|---|---|
| Intimate (under 50 guests) | Couple's car for arrival, photos and getaway | Mostly hours on one vehicle |
| Mid-size (around 100 to 150 guests) | Stretch limo for the wedding party, plus a shuttle loop between one hotel and the venue | Shuttle hours before the ceremony and after the reception |
| Large (200 guests) | Couple's car, wedding party limo and a motorcoach or multiple shuttles for guests | Guest transportation, which usually outweighs everything else |
Your coordinator will price each piece separately, so you can see what dropping or adding a vehicle does to the total.
Knowing when each payment is due helps as much as knowing the total. For Delaware Limo weddings:
Our team confirms every detail with you two weeks before the wedding, and the coordinator monitors your reservation on the day.

The Knot's study of couples married in 2024 put the U.S. average at $1,075. Couples with more than 100 guests spent nearly $1,200, and Northeast weddings averaged $1,500. Guest shuttles are what push costs higher.
It isn't required, but it helps when the venue is far from the hotel, parking is limited or guests will be drinking. Shuttles keep arrival times predictable and keep guests off the road after the reception.
Delaware Limo recommends 3 to 6 months ahead. For spring and fall weddings, earlier is better, since those seasons are busiest and popular dates fill quickly. Vintage cars should be requested several months out.
At Delaware Limo, the 30% deposit required at booking is non-refundable. For limos, party buses and shuttles, the rest is charged 30 days before the wedding. Motorcoach and vintage car bookings are paid in full upfront.
At Delaware Limo, tipping isn't required because chauffeurs are paid hourly with bonuses. If you'd like to tip for great service, you can pay in cash on the day or authorize a card charge.
Start with the national benchmark, then adjust for your guest count, your hotel distance and the number of hours you'll need. That gets you a budget you can defend before you sign anything. When you're ready for numbers specific to your date and venue, Delaware Limo offers free one-on-one planning with our wedding coordinator.
